This particular TV series was quite a challenge for me to finish. Despite the attempts to make it a serious and modern story, it failed to evoke any laughter. On paper, the plot resembled that of Cinderella, except the lead character was far from glorious. She was forced to pursue wealth in order to satisfy her parents' desires, who failed to find their own solutions. Instead, they were banking on their daughter's undeniable beauty to secure their future. Predictably, she...quickly caught the attention of three wealthy men, including her boss. However, this newfound attention soon overwhelmed her with demands and gift requests. But here's the problem: she had to choose between the three suitors.
The first suitor had an utterly crazy mother who lived solely for him, going as far as hiring a private detective to keep tabs on him. The second suitor was completely unhinged himself, with a violent and arrogant demeanor, throwing money around and refusing to accept rejection. Not to mention, his mother was paying for a toy boy. The third suitor, who was the toy boy of the second suitor's mother, appeared to be the most loving. However, he too played the facade of being wealthy like the lead character, and his father was just as unhinged, forcing him to seduce rich women. Lastly, there was her boss, an older man who claimed he would divorce his wife but never did, and he wanted all the perks and benefits without consequences.
Sensible people would probably say that none of these options were suitable and choose to move on. But not the lead character. She decided to give all of them a chance, either by going out with them, kissing them, or leaving doors open for them.
Unfortunately, the show took a turn for the worse for me when it came to the character I liked the most. This unfortunate turn broke the entire series for me. There were many moments of inconsistency, where the reactions and actions of the characters were just absurd.
Why did I continue watching, you might ask? Well, initially it was because of the potential of a relationship that I felt invested in. But in the end, when that relationship went south or had a tragic fate, I finished the drama without any conviction. Miraculously, I managed to shed a tear in the last episode when one of the characters finally had a moment of clarity, although it should have happened episodes ago. Better late than never, as they say.
So, what's the lesson I learned from all of this? It's better to be poor but have values, rather than be rich and morally corrupt.
In conclusion, would I recommend this drama? If you're writing a thesis on the lack of intelligence in greedy people within the context of psychological studies, then sure, it might be fruitful. Otherwise, I suggest you save yourself the hours of suffering and move on. While I initially thought it was a decent show, the numerous flaws in the final act ruined it for me.
