Summary:

During a historical period in Korea known as the Joseon Dynasty, an extraordinary young woman named Hong Chun Ki defies societal expectations by pursuing her passion for painting. Despite being born blind, she somehow develops the ability to see. Against all odds, she secures a place at the most esteemed art college in the entire kingdom.

Everything changes when she encounters Ha Ram, a gifted astrologer who possesses an uncanny talent for predicting the future despite being blind. Ha Ram's life takes a different trajectory from Hong Chun Ki's, as he was once able to see but lost his vision due to a childhood accident.

As their paths converge, both protagonists find themselves entangled in the intricate web of palace politics. The sphere of royal influence pulls them closer, particularly involving two princes who play significant roles in Hong Chun Ki and Ha Ram's lives. Prince Yang Myung, known for his carefree nature, stands in stark contrast to Prince Joo Hyang, a manipulative and ambitious individual who harbors a burning desire to claim the throne of Joseon. As the story unfolds, their destinies become intertwined, bringing forth unexpected consequences for everyone involved.

This captivating narrative is inspired by the novel "Hong Chun Ki" (홍천기) written by Jung Eun Gwol (정은궐).

This drama is a mixed bag for me. While there were moments that kept me interested, there were also times where I felt things were dragging. However, overall, it was not a bad drama and it never tested my patience. The central plot revolves around a fated pair sent by heaven to seal a demon who was once the god of death. This demon, now consumed by greed, must be trapped in a magical vessel in the form of a painting to save humanity.

    The cliches...

in the storyline did get on my nerves, not because they were cliches, but because they were executed in a frustrating way. There were times where the characters seemed to be wasting time on trivial matters instead of focusing on the important task at hand. The show also suffered from a slow start and some unanswered questions. However, the artistic elements, such as the paintings used as vessels, were visually pleasing. The CGI and cinematography added to the supernatural elements when necessary.

The cast did a good job, including the side characters, and there were no annoying performances. Special mention goes to the talented child actress who played the role of the tiger goddess. As for the main characters, the blind male lead's heightened senses seemed too convenient and the emotional-driven nature of the female lead made her somewhat unlikable. The typical villain motive of seeking power added to the predictability of the plot. The second male lead, who falls in love with the female lead, was the only character I felt attached to. Despite having chemistry and treating her well, he doesn't get the girl because he wasn't the destined one, which was disappointing.

Overall, this drama had its flaws, but the idea of a demon trapped in a painting was intriguing. I would classify it as a decent, mediocre drama that might appeal to those seeking something average on their watchlist. If you're willing to overlook the inconsistencies and unanswered questions, it may be worth giving it a chance.

What a rollercoaster ride! As an avid Kdrama fan, I was eagerly awaiting this drama, but I must admit, I didn't have high expectations. However, I was still hoping for a decent drama with average ratings. Unfortunately, I found it hard to stay engaged after the first few episodes. I was praying for improvement, but eventually had to fast forward to the end just for closure.

The setting of this saeguk supernatural drama is the Joseon Dynasty, during the reign of the third monarch Taejong. The...

story revolves around Hong Chun Ki, the only known female painter with divine powers, and Ha Ram, the son of the head shaman. Both characters have a unique connection and are fated to seal a powerful demon in a portrait. As adults, they are drawn into a web of palace intrigue and power struggles, all leading to the ultimate goal of sealing the demon once again.

The cast, especially the experienced actors in supporting roles, delivered commendable performances. However, I must admit that I was disappointed by the acting of the main cast. They had the potential to shine but fell short, offering underwhelming performances.

The drama did have its share of questionable choices, such as a kiss scene between the child actors playing the younger versions of the main characters. While such displays may have been more common historically, it felt unnecessary and uncomfortable to witness in a TV show.

The plot development left much to be desired, with inconsistent pacing and numerous plot holes that left me confused. The script lacked coherence and could not maintain my interest. There were times when the story dragged on and others when it felt rushed. It's a shame because the emphasis on art and painting in the competition scenes was intriguing.

Furthermore, some character arcs were poorly developed and the supernatural/fantasy elements felt out of place in the medieval historical setting. The director failed to guide the young cast effectively, and the overall execution of the drama fell short of expectations.

Despite its flaws, there were a few redeeming qualities. The emphasis on Korean painting and the supernatural elements based on folk beliefs were unique and initially captivating. The portrayal of the fight between Sam Shin and Ma Wang, and the role of fate in the characters' lives, added some interesting twists. Additionally, the use of OSTs and background scores helped create the right atmosphere for certain scenes.

In conclusion, "Lovers of the Red Sky" falls short of being an average quality drama. It feels ridiculous, boring, and lacks the necessary elements for an engaging storyline. I wouldn't recommend wasting your time on it. Put it in the "use me" box and move on to something better.

This drama brings together Korean mythology and an intriguing love story. It features mythological entities like Grandmother Samshin and a goblin, although they are different from those depicted in the drama Goblin. The concept of using an enchanted portrait, painted by a heavenly blessed artist, to seal an evil spirit adds an interesting twist to the plot. The drama's CGI effects and cinematography are well-executed, particularly in the depiction of the magical scenes and beautifully drawn paintings. Kim Yoojung portrays the sweetness and innocence of...

her character Hong Cheongi, who strives to gain recognition for her artistic talent and save Ha Ram from possession. Ahn Hyoseop, in his first attempt at fusion sageuk, impresses with his portrayal of a supernaturally handsome scholar. The chemistry between Yoojung and Hyoseop is captivating, enhanced by the focus on their eyes - at times normal, sightless, or filled with supernatural energy.

Overall, this drama successfully combines Korean mythology, a unique love story, impressive CGI effects, and captivating cinematography. The performances of Kim Yoojung and Ahn Hyoseop bring depth and beauty to their characters, making them a visually appealing pair on screen. The drama stands out with its supernatural portrayal of a painting coming to life and the use of enchantment to combat evil spirits. While reminiscent of other dramas dealing with demons, this series maintains its own distinct identity. The full airing of this drama, without facing issues that led to the cancellation of similar shows, is a positive aspect that allows viewers to fully enjoy the well-crafted storyline and stunning visuals.

Once upon a time, in a land where fantasy and drama intertwined, there existed a television series that left me feeling perplexed. It was as if the creators themselves were toying with the audience, not taking their own creation seriously. However, amidst the confusion, there were some shining moments.

First and foremost, the artistry displayed in this series was truly commendable. The focus on traditional Korean and Asian paintings was a sight to behold. The viewers were given the chance to appreciate the intricate details and...

the mastery required to create such magnificent works of art. One could not help but be mesmerized by the painstaking strokes and techniques employed in painting the portraits of kings.

Moreover, the special effects employed in the series were more than satisfactory. In fact, I would go so far as to say they exceeded expectations. The visual spectacle they provided added an extra layer of allure to the narrative, enhancing the viewing experience.

In terms of the cast, the performances were decent, if not exceptional. Kim Yoo Jung and Ahn Hyo Seop possessed a certain charm that drew viewers in, despite their shortcomings as actors. However, it was Kwak Shi Yang who truly stole the spotlight as the captivating antagonist. His portrayal was simply mesmerizing, leaving a lasting impression.

Unfortunately, amidst the positive aspects, there were quite a few negatives that dampened the overall experience. The series seemed to rely heavily on "convenient" plotholes, using them as a means to escape from difficult situations. It felt like lazy writing, with random and haphazard resolutions appearing out of thin air to resolve conflicts.

Furthermore, the main character's condition seemed inconsistent with his actions. Despite being blind, he moved with such ease and grace that it was almost unbelievable. He even rode horses, which seemed far-fetched given his visual impairment. Additionally, the inclusion of his ability to predict the future by reading the stars felt forced and improbable—just another way for the creators to suspend our disbelief, as if we would unquestioningly accept such a notion.

One character, in particular, stood out as the most obnoxious and entitled female lead in a Korean historical drama. Her behavior, especially during a painting contest, was reminiscent of a spoiled child throwing a tantrum. The idea that one could hear brushstrokes and decipher the content of a painting based on sound alone felt contrived and unrealistic.

Lastly, the potential for the royal shaman to play a more significant role was wasted. She seemed to hover in a gray area, neither good nor completely evil. It was expected that she would have a grand moment during the final ritual, redeeming herself and saving the kingdom. However, her sudden demise without any real impact left viewers feeling disappointed and dissatisfied.

While the initial episodes of this series held promise, the latter half failed to live up to expectations. Predictability plagued the plotlines, leaving little room for surprise or excitement. It became a mere obligation to finish watching, akin to completing a task for the sake of reporting.

In conclusion, this is not a series I would choose to rewatch. Furthermore, I find it difficult to wholeheartedly recommend it when there are numerous other dramas that offer a superior viewing experience.

Get ready to be swept away on a rollercoaster of emotions with this TV series! From the moment I saw the captivating trailer, I knew I had to watch it. And let me tell you, it did not disappoint!

The main characters may be a bit younger than expected, but their acting skills are truly top-notch. Despite the slight age difference, they bring so much life and depth to their roles. It's like watching a group of talented babies taking on the world!

    Now, I have to...

admit, the storyline may seem a bit all over the place at times. But trust me, it all comes together in the end. Without giving too much away, let's just say that the twists and turns will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very last episode. It's like the finale of a certain magical wizarding series we all love!

Well, think again, because she encounters a blind astrologer who adds a whole new dimension of fun to the story. Cue the eye rolls!

Now, I must admit that there are a few unanswered questions along the way. For example, the role of the mysterious goblin isn't entirely clear. But hey, who doesn't love a little touch of magic sprinkled into an already enchanting storyline? It keeps you guessing and wanting more!

And let's not forget about the stunning performances from the cast. While the script may have a few repetitive moments, the leading actress manages to make every line count. She beautifully portrays her character's journey, capturing the essence of every scene. Bravo!

In the end, this TV series showcases the incredible talent of the young and talented Kim You Jung. While I wish there were more challenging roles for her, she still shines in every frame. It's a delightful and captivating experience that you won't want to miss!

So grab your popcorn, settle in, and let this TV series take you on a magical ride through love, friendship, and the unexpected. It's an adventure you won't regret embarking on!
