Once upon a time, I stumbled upon a TV series with little to no expectations. I thought, why not give it a shot? To my pleasant surprise, the story had some substance, and the writers managed to keep me engaged throughout. Just when the pace started to drag, an interesting element popped up, grabbing my attention once again.

Now, I must admit, this drama wasn't without its flaws. It had its fair share of cringe-worthy tropes, unrealistic situations, annoying decisions, and plot holes. And let's not...

forget the occasional overdone acting. However, these flaws weren't serious enough to overshadow the overall good job that everyone did in portraying their roles.

Among the cast, Sabrina Chen impressed me the most. Her performance in this drama far exceeded her character rendition in another highly rated show that I found quite boring. In fact, I had put that other show on hold, but maybe after watching her in this drama, I'll give it another chance and try to finish it.

As for the romance in this series, well, it had its ups and downs. The relationship between Xiao Rou and Gao Xing had the passion of an old married couple, but it somehow lacked the youthful discovery of love. Perhaps it was because the characters were childhood sweethearts, and the writers didn't inject any more romantic scenes to make our hearts flutter. As a result, the chemistry between the main leads was lacking at times.

On the other hand, the second lead characters had more interesting relationships. Li Da Bai and Dongfang Qi provided a good dose of comedy, and Liang Chenhui added himself to the mix, balancing the restrained romance between Gao Ya and Han Mu.

What I particularly loved about this drama was its amazing cinematography. Most of the scenes were shot in real public and private locations, giving an authentic feel to the show. Only a few scenes seemed to have been filmed in a studio. It was a treat seeing the characters immersed in the beauty of Sanya, strolling through the streets of Suzhou, and dining in the restaurants of Shanghai. I was so intrigued by these locations that I even tried to look them up myself.

Not to be overlooked, the outfits in this drama were absolutely gorgeous. The costume director did a fantastic job in creating visually stunning ensembles.

If I were to rate this drama, I would have given it a higher score if only it had fewer episodes or more focus on the romance between the main leads. Nevertheless, it does have a happy ending, making it a good one-time watch. And that, my friends, is why I felt compelled to write this review.
