Summary:

The story of Water Margin took place during the reign of Emperor Huizong of Song. When Emperor Huizong was still a prince, he was fascinated by cuju (a sport similar to soccer). At that time in Kaifeng, the capital of the Song Dynasty, there was a gangster named Gao Qiu who was very good at cuju. On a random occasion, Gao Qiu showed his ball skills to Emperor Huizong. Emperor Huizong admired Gao Qiu's skills and kept him in the prince's residence. Shortly afterward, Emperor Zhezong died and Emperor Huizong succeeded to the throne. Gao Qiu was appointed by Emperor Huizong as a commander of the capital forces. The story tells about the exploits of a group of 105 men and 3 women, representing all classes of Chinese society, who rose up, under the leadership of Song Jiang, against the tyranny of a corrupt and unjust official in the Song dynasty. Eventually, after defeating the Imperial forces sent to suppress them, they were granted amnesty and invited to form their own company in the Imperial army. They were then sent to attack Fang La in the south, who had declared himself an emperor, and met a tragic end.
